The 2008 Independence Brew-B-Q is on the books and is scheduled for September 19 and 20 in the Riverwalk Parks riverside location. The September 2007 Independence Brew-B-Q contest produced some excellent barbecue and a very, very tight competition. Parrothead Smokers came away with the Grand Champion award for the second year, but right behind and we mean right behind were 4 Mile Smokin’ Crew as Reserve Champion; it was a beautiful weekend. We are expecting as good if not better for 2008.
Teams will begin arriving as early as Friday morning to begin their preparation. By Friday evening the entire Riverwalk Parks area will be blanketed by the aroma from grills, smokers and cookers of barbecue. This is the time for the public to walk through the competition area and welcome the teams—and maybe pick up a little outdoor cooking advice.
Again for 2008 we will accept one entry in each of the four KCBS categories: pork ribs, chicken, beef brisket and pork. Each entry will be rigorously judged by KCBS-certified judges.
Every aspect of the BBQ contest is under KCBS Rules and under the supervision of KCBS representatives. The Grand Champion of the Independence Brew-B-Q will then receive a special invitation to the Kansas City Royal, the world’s largest cooking competition.
